The Mother's Day Fairy - for Homeschooling/Unschooling Moms

The Mother's Day Fairy Checklist

Create a HAPPY Mother's Day - for Everyone!

Your kids aren't sitting in a classroom this week getting reminded to make something for you.
There's no teacher sending home a craft.
No school newsletter nudging your partner into action.

So this year, here's my brilliant suggestion— YOU become the Mother's Day Fairy.

Because YOU know exactly what would make the day feel good.
And as an unschooling mom, you already know about setting the stage for success.

Wouldn't it be nice to avoid looking at your kids with disappointment (or worse), if/when they forget to celebrate you?

Let's increase the chances for a Successful Mother's Day, do a little prep work and remove the friction!

🌙 The Night Before Mother's Day...

1. Order food delivery for tomorrow morning — something YOU love. When the doorbell rings, act completely surprised.
"The Mother's Day Fairy has arrived — with all my favorite foods!!"

Instant tradition. 🧚🏼‍♂️

 2. No delivery budget? No problem. Set something out the night before.

  • Tie a ribbon on a pitcher of pancake mix waiting in the fridge.
  • Slap a pink bow on a box of donuts.
  • Set the table like it's a fancy holiday. You are worth a fancy table.

3. Leave markers and cardstock out on the table.
Don't orchestrate it — just make it available. Let them discover it in the morning. If you want some inspiration, grab the printables at the top of this page and leave those out to use.

4. Write out a simple signup list (like a potluck!) and leave it where the family will see it:

  • Who's giving Mom a neck massage?
  • Who's cleaning out Mom's car?
  • Who's sharing their favorite memory with Mom at dinner?
  • Who's pulling dessert out of the fridge?
  • Who's fluffing Mom's pillows so she can slip away with her Kindle?

5. Get yourself some flowers. Pick some up at the grocery store. Order them online. Pick them from a field.
Don't wait for someone else to think of it. You deserve flowers — make it happen.

6. Think about what you actually want tomorrow to feel like and write it down.
Tell the Fam. Don't make them guess — you'll end up with more of what you didn't want!

  • A slow quiet morning?
  • A hike?
  • A movie?
  • A selfie photoshoot in the backyard?

7. Set something aside just for you — your favorite chocolate, a fancy candle, a book you've been meaning to start.
The Mother's Day Fairy takes care of everything. Isn't she sweet?

8. Decide right now to stay off Instagram until Mother's Day is over. The highlight reels can wait.
   YOUR day cannot.

On The Day ☀️

"THE MOTHER'S DAY FAIRY VISITED US!"

  1. Start the morning slowly if you can. Even 15 quiet minutes before the day starts counts.

  2. Put on the Mother's Day playlist - I have enough for you to last all day! 🎵 [YouTube link ] [Spotify link]

  3. Suggest moving the celebration outside if kitchen chaos stresses you out.
A hike, a picnic, a drive — whatever feels good to you.

  4. Take dictation from the kids. Use the printables at the top of this page and see what's rolling around in those little heads of theirs!

  5. Text your favorite moms today. Tell them something you love about how they mother. Let THEM feel seen too.
And think about the single moms in your community — a cheerful text from your kids wishing them Happy Mother's Day will mean more than you know.

  6. Focus on gratitude — not what didn't happen, but what you have BECAUSE you became a mom. Grab a notebook and list it out. Use the Gratitude Guide if you want more ideas!

  7. If someone forgets — and it happens — let it go.
Their love for you doesn't change based on what day Hallmark says is the most important day for moms.

  8. If the day feels a little flat — put on that playlist, pull out the donuts, light the candle.
You already know how to set the stage for a good day. You do it for your kids all the time. Now do it for you.

  9. Take a photo with your kids today. Not a perfect one. A real one. Tag me @Unschooling Mom2Mom or in the Facebook Group — we want to celebrate with YOU! 📸

  10. At the end of the day, look in the mirror and say:

"Look at you. You kept doing this momming thing day after day.

You have stamina. You're doing the dang thing."

Because appreciation is an inside job

And you deserve a good Mother's Day — even if you have to give a little of it to yourself.

Just Remember...

This kind of modeling will help the kids see what COULD be easily done - and it will help you with your own mindset about it all. Social media is full of highlight reels when someone is having a FABULOUS Mother's Day.

Don't let that get you down. Create your own! (and maybe stay off the 'Gram until Mother's Day is over!)

Happy Mother's Day, mama. 🌸
